Subtract

Use the Subtract command to remove the volume of one or more tool bodies from the target bodies.

• You can select multiple bodies as the targets and as the tools.

• If the tool body completely splits the target body into multiple solid bodies the resulting solid bodies are parameterized features.

** A tool solid is subtracted from a target solid leaving a parameterized Subtract feature

** Note: An empty space may remain.

• If you select a sheet body as a tool body, the result is a fully parameterized Subtract feature with all regions kept.

You can convert a Subtract feature to a Unite feature by right-clicking the feature and selecting Convert to Unite.

Remove tool body volume using Subtract

1. Choose Home tab→Base group→Subtract .

Note: In the Subtract dialog box, by default, Select Body is active first in the Target group, and after you select a target, it is active in the Tool group. 2. Select a target body.

** 4. (Optional) You can do the following:

In the Preview group, use Show Result / Undo Result to check how the target body will be modified when the volume of the tool bodies is subtracted from it.

** 5. To save an unmodified copy of the original target body, select Keep Target. 6. To save an unmodified copy of the original tool bodies, select Keep Tool. 7. Choose OK or Apply.

The target body is modified by subtracting the volumes of the four tool bodies.
