Space Reservation
If your part does not contain any electrical connection data, or if you do not want to use a standard stock from the Reuse Library, you can apply space reservation to a path to emulate rigid or flexible stock.
Space Reservation is available in several choices:
- Preferred Stock
- Circular
- Rectangular
- Flat Oval
- Specified Stock
When you create a space reservation, NX extrudes the selected profile along the path according to the size parameters you provide (e.g. circular space reservation placed on three segments).
Besides the three basic profiles, you can select space reservation from the Routing Part Library. To do that, select Specified Stock, then click Specify Stock to choose a space reservation.
You can also use Preferred Stock to utilize a preferred space reservation as defined in the Routing Preferences. To define a preferred space reservation, use the Choose Space Reservation Stock option to select the desired space reservation from the Routing Part Library.
After space reservation is created, you can edit its overall size or completely change its profile. However, unlike standard stock, you cannot edit its rendering style to Centerline, Simple Solid, or Detailed Solid.
In Routing Electrical, you can choose to automatically remove any space reservation from a harness assembly when you route wires in the harness. To do this, turn on the Delete Space Reservation Stock on Route preference in the Wiring Preferences dialog box.
Space reservation behavior
By default, NX renders space reservation as translucent. This is useful if you want to differentiate it from standard stock in the assembly. To adjust the level of translucency, set the Space Reservation Stock Translucency value in the Routing Preferences dialog box or in the Routing Customer Defaults.
Note: To see a translucent rendering in the graphics window, you must select the Translucency option in the Visualization Preferences.
Like stock, you can include space reservation in runs and spools. However, space reservation is not generated from a part family template, so it does not inherit any of its Routing Library Defined attributes from a PTB. Therefore you cannot expect the same level of design rules checking for a space reservation as you would with stock generated from a part family template.
Where do I find it?
To create space reservation:
- Application: Routing Electrical or Routing Mechanical
- Command: Space Reservation
- Graphics window: Right-click a segment with no space reservation assigned to it → New Space Reservation
To edit space reservation:
- Application: Routing Electrical or Routing Mechanical + a Routing specialty application
- Graphics window: Right-click the segment with space reservation → Edit Space Reservation
- Part Navigator: Right-click the space reservation node → Edit Space Reservation
How do I
- Apply space reservation to a path
- Create space reservation using Preferred Stock
- Define a preferred space reservation
- Create circular space reservation stock
- Create rectangular space reservation stock
- Create flat oval space reservation stock
