Electrical Component Navigator

Use the Electrical Component Navigator to assign Identifiers, also known as reference designators, to electrical components in a Routing Electrical assembly. These identifiers allow a unique or non-unique identifier for each component in the assembly. If unique IDs are used, then the components can be auto-assigned; otherwise manual assignment is required.

Electrical components are either devices or connectors. Each component must have an ID assigned to it in order for the Electrical Connection Navigator to reference the component. All components referenced in the connection list must have an entry in the component list and an ID assigned to its occurrence in the assembly in order to enable routing of wires. If you have 2D electrical data from an external source, you may import an electrical component list (PLMXML, CMP, or ZIP file) into your part file. An imported component list is added to the work part's assembly for placement/assignment.

Smart fields

Smart fields are created for every component list, in addition to any fields specified in the file format:

Field	Description
unique_id	Specifies the unique id for a device.
connector_id	Specifies the unique id of a connector component.
part_name	The value used to match the unique id with a component in the assembly (the Wiring Preferences control the matching criteria).
occur	Indicates the Assigned status of the component in the assembly.
routed	Indicates that the component has wires routed to it, as indicated in the Routed column.
description	Displays a logical description of the component.

It is not necessary to have a device (unique_id) defined in order to assign a connector (connector_id). NX manages the Occur field and the Routed field. The Routed box displays the following codes:

• A — The device or connector is automatically assigned.
• M — The device or connector is manually assigned.
• MC — The connector is assigned to a modular connector parent.
• N — The device or connector is not assigned.
