Tips and techniques: Transforming a model
Scaling a model from a specific point
Suppose you want to scale a trimming surface in a vertical direction from its bottom.
Use the Move Tool Only option to reposition the handles to a location other than the default location in the center.
Select the objects to scale.
Select Move Tool Only .
Right-click the Origin handle and choose Set to Point from the list.
Specify a point location for the origin.
Clear Move Tool Only .
Scale the subdivision model.
Transforming a specific area of the model
Suppose you want to rotate one area of a model.
You can select using area selection in one view, and rotate the selection using a different view.
Turn on the preference Allow Backside Selection .
Select by dragging a rectangle in side view.
Rotate to a top orientation.
Drag the rotation handles to rotate the selected cage geometry.
Translating or rotating cages by a specific value
Suppose you want to translate or rotate cage elements by a specific value.
You can use the scene dialog.
Select cage elements to be transformed.
Click a Translate or Rotate handle to display a scene dialog.
You can enter an exact value instead of dragging an arbitrary amount.
Click Apply or OK to accept your changes.
Transform the model iteratively
Suppose you want to iteratively transform a model.
To rapidly select and transform, use the Exclusive Selection option on the Top Border bar instead of clicking Apply or restarting the Transform Cage command after every edit.
On the Top Border bar, select Exclusive Selection .
Select and transform the first set of objects.
Select and transform the second set of objects.
Click Apply or OK to accept your changes.
Transform multiple selections
Suppose you need to select two areas to transform them together.
To make multiple selections, on the Top Border bar, make sure Exclusive Selection is off.
On the Top Border bar, ensure Exclusive Selection is toggled off.
Select the first set of cage objects.
Tip: To select additional cage objects, hold the Control key while selecting.
Select the second set of objects.
Transform the selected objects together.
Note: If Symmetric Modeling is on, transformations are symmetric across the symmetry plane.
