Start Symmetric Modeling dialog box

Symmetry Plane

Specify Plane

Lets you specify the mirror plane for symmetric modeling.

Either create a plane using the Plane Dialog or select a plane method from the plane list.

Mirror Procedure

Cut Body

Splits the existing body at the specified symmetry plane and only keeps the specified side, as represented by the control cage.

Note: Any non-symmetric geometry on the non-cage side is discarded, and replaced with symmetric geometry.

The control cage is typically closed (not mandatory) and it typically intersects with the symmetry plane (not mandatory).

  • A direction vector points from the mirror plane to the side that is kept - this is reversible.

  • New edges are created on the symmetry plane with default weight and C2 continuity.

Any changes to the control cage are reflected on the mirrored side of the symmetry plane.

Project Edge

Projects selected open control edges to the symmetry plane with C2 continuity.

This is useful in creating a symmetric body when starting with an open sheet body.

Any changes to the control cage are reflected on the other side of the symmetry plane.

Switch Side

Available when Mirror Procedure is set to Cut Body.

Lets you switch the side of the control cage across the symmetry plane.
