Discontinuities
A discontinuity is an artificial break along an otherwise continuous path. You assign a discontinuity to an RCP. Any RCP with a discontinuity appears with an asterisk inside its symbol.
Use the Assign Discontinuity command to establish a discontinuity at an RCP. When you assign a discontinuity, any stock or space reservation applied to the path is automatically subdivided at that RCP. The discontinuity remains in effect until you manually remove it.
Example:
- The original path consists of a single linear segment that has stock.
- The segment is subdivided into three equal segments.
- Discontinuities are assigned to the RCPs where the three separate segments meet, and three separate stock features replace the original stock feature.
Note: You can then convert the stock or space reservation to component objects in the routing assembly.

- Application: Routing Electrical + an electrical specialty application, or Routing Mechanical + a mechanical specialty application
- Command: Assign Discontinuity
- Graphics window: Right-click an RCP → Assign Discontinuity
