Parts
You can place parts along existing paths, or you can run the paths from previously placed parts. The main tools for working with parts are Qualify Part and Place Part.
Generally, any part used in a routing assembly has intelligence added through the Qualify Part tool. Using Qualify Part, you add objects such as ports that determine how the part is connected to other parts and stock. Once qualified, parts are easily added into an assembly through the Place Part tool.
Standard parts
Routing may use standard parts, supplied by a vendor who specializes in the manufacture and/or distribution of a particular class of parts, which meet industry specifications for form, fit, and function. Routing can also use standard parts manufactured for a specific use as a standard component of a larger product. Often Routing Mechanical and Routing Logical use an NX Part Family to enumerate the possible variations of a standard part for Routing Electrical.
Routing applications use standard parts to represent the following types of parts:
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Stock | A section of a routing assembly cut from a standard length or roll (for example, wire, tube, or pipe). Routing provides special functions for handling the creation and assignment of stock. |
| Fitting | A standard part, such as joints, valves, and caps, that connects stock to form a routing assembly. |
| Connector | These standard parts serve the same logical purpose as fittings within an electrical routing application. |
| Outlet Fitting | These fittings insert into a section of stock by drilling a hole in the side, rather than attaching at the ends of the stock. |
| Device | Vessels, junction boxes, motors, or switches. Logically, a route connects two devices using specific terminal points on each device. For Routing Electrical, a device typically has a connector attached to it. |
| Fixture | A standard part used to support the stock and fittings within a routing assembly. Example fixtures are hooks, struts, brackets, clips, clamps, and braces. A fixture part does not connect to stock (although stock may run through it). |
| Deformable | A deformable part is a component that may be shaped differently in different placements. Parts such as flexible hoses and cables are examples. |
| Fabrication | A routing assembly composed of stock and other standard parts that is produced as a separate unit. |
| Formboard | A formboard part is a flattened and straightened representation of an electrical harness used to manufacture the harness. |
| Logical | A Routing Logical part is a 2D diagram representing a Routing Mechanical routing system. |
| Symbol | 2D symbol parts used by the Routing Logical application. |
