Introduction to Routing

The Routing applications provide you with the tools to quickly create systems that carry air, fluids, or electricity using lengths of stock and connecting fittings. These tools are commonly divided into sets of tools used for mechanical systems, tools used for electrical systems, and functionality that is common to both.

You can use the Routing functionality to define centerline-based paths placed around and through other NX assemblies, assign stock to these paths, and place standard parts to connect the various pieces of stock in the overall assembly. Routing subassemblies typically define the systems that provide power or signals, carry air or fluids, or provide structural support to the devices in the assembly. For example, within an aircraft engine, tubes are routed from the fuel tanks to various injection points around the engine. Within an automobile, wiring harnesses are required to supply power to the electric windows and other devices.

Routing Electrical

Use Routing Electrical for creating and managing electrical power and signal systems. It includes two Routing specialty applications:

Routing Harness — Use Routing Harness for fabricating electrical harness and cable assemblies, including formboard fabrication.

Routing Cabling — Use Routing Cabling for routing harness cables through cableways.

Routing Mechanical

Use Routing Mechanical for routing air, fluid, and structural systems. It includes the following Routing specialty applications:

Routing Piping and Tubing — provides the tools for designing rigid and flexible piping and tubing systems.

Routing HVAC — provides tools for designing HVAC systems.

Routing Platform — Platforms and handrails provides tools for designing handrail and platform structures.

Routing Pipe Welding — provides tools for designing and maintaining weld joints on large assemblies.

Routing Logical

Routing Logical includes functions for the creation of 2D schematics for mechanical piping systems.

Running with Teamcenter Integration

The Routing Bill of Materials may be set up to generate items in a Teamcenter BOM view for stock. For more information, see Introduction to PTB files.

Routing Electrical and Routing Mechanical can both generate XML files that pass information to Teamcenter. Items in Teamcenter may be defined to represent wires and cables in Routing Electrical, or runs and spools in Routing Mechanical.
