Move cage edges and vertices to shape a surface

This example shows how to move cage edges and vertices to match the outlines of an illustration.

Choose Home tab→Modify group→Transform Cage .
In the Transform Cage dialog box, click the Transform tab.
Rotate so you can see the cage edges and vertices of the outside of the chair, and then select the two outside cage edges.

The transform tool moves to an averaged location based on the total objects selected.

Orient to a side view and drag the cage edges upward until the surface edge matches the edge of the raster illustration.
Click Apply

You need to apply your changes, because you are going to translate vertices next.

Transform Cage is still active.

Rotate to an orientation so you can select corresponding interior cage vertices.
Select the two cage vertices as shown.
Drag the X-Translate handle inward to broaden the edge of the chair.
Middle-click to complete the transform.
Upon examination of the model, it is found that the front of the chair is too horizontal and needs some contouring. Lowering one cage vertex will address this.

Select the cage vertex and then right-click and choose Transform Cage
