Tips and techniques: Weighting

  • Remember that weighting is set on edges. When you apply weight to a face, you are applying weight to all of its edges.

  • Avoid setting weight on multiple selected faces.

This may overweight the subdivision model with edge weighting set on multiple intersecting edges causing surface topology issues.

  • It is not a good practice to set both edge weighting and sharp continuity on the same edge.

Adding weight to an edge that already has sharp continuity has no effect – continuity overrides weighting.

  • Subdividing faces affects the weighting that may have been applied to the edges of those faces.
