Extrude Cage dialog box

Face or Edge

For selection of objects to be extruded.

Select Object

Lets you select cage faces, cage edges, or polylines to be extruded.

Note: If all faces are selected and the edges are open, the sheet is thickened.

Method

Drag Linear

Lets you drag cage objects in the graphics window without using the transform tool.

Direction

  • Inferred

The inferred direction depends on the object type.

  • Cage face = individual normal

  • Open cage edge = individual tangent

  • Internal cage edge = average face normal at vertices

  • Cage polyline = normal to common plane

  • Vector

Specifies dragging in the direction of the vector you specify.

  • Perpendicular

Specifies dragging perpendicular to your selected geometry.

Limit

  • Distance

Sets the extrusion distance of the selected edges or faces.

Note: In addition to entering a value in the dialog box, you can also drag the Distance handle in the graphics window.

Transform

Lets you dynamically translate, rotate and scale cage objects in the graphics window using the transform tool.

  • ** Move Tool Only

Moves the tool without moving any selected cage objects.

The display of the transform tool changes to show Move Tool Only status.

  • ** Relocate Tool to Selection

When new objects are selected, the transform tool relocates to the newly selected objects.

  • ** Reorient Tool to Selection

When new cage objects are selected, the transform tool is reoriented to the newly selected objects.

Scaling

Controls the direction in which the selected cage objects are scaled.

  • Linear

Scales about the transformer tool origin, in the direction of the selected axis, in both directions.

  • Planar

Scales about the transformer tool origin, in both directions normal to the selected axis.

  • Uniform

Scales about the transformer tool origin, in all three directions.

Segmentation

Number of Segments

Sets the number of cage segments of the cross section.

Settings

Continuity

  • Smooth sets the continuity to C2 continuous and also sets weight to 0%.

  • Sharp sets the continuity to C0 continuous and also sets weight to 100%.

How do I

  • Extrude cage edges

  • Extrude a cage face

  • Extrude a polyline to create a solid body
