New part selection

There are two methods available to select the replacement part:

  • The Specify Item method uses the standard dialog box for routing item selection.
  • Characteristic Search allows you to select a similar part by varying particular characteristic values.

Characteristics search

The Characteristic Search method for selecting the replacement part lets you select a part by matching characteristics of the replacement part. The left panel shows all the characteristics of the replacement part. The right panel shows all the parts that match that set of characteristics.

You can turn off a characteristic in the left panel to remove it from the search criteria. Choosing Apply causes the right panel to update to the new criteria. Select one entry in the right panel and choose OK to use that part as the replacement part.

Part placement

The replacement part is placed in a best-fit orientation. If the replacement part is very similar to the original part (number of ports, port location, and so on) the initial placement solution is likely to be correct. However, an alternate placement solution may need to be selected.
