Symmetrically model faces of a game controller

This example shows how a scaled sphere is manipulated symmetrically across a center plane to form the base shape of a game controller in the NX Realize Shape task environment.

  1. Right-click the cage edge as shown and choose Transform Cage .

The default transform method is Drag.

  1. In the Transform Cage dialog box, in the Method group, select Transform.

Drag and Transform use different manipulator tools.

  1. Drag the translation handle of the cage edge to change the shape as shown.

  2. Select the cage edge as shown.

  3. Rotate the transform tool around XC approximately 45 degrees, as shown.

  4. Drag the ZC translation handle inward as shown.

  5. Select the cage edge as shown, and drag downward to taper the edge.

  6. Select the underside cage edge, and drag upward to raise the center portion of the controller body.


After you have your basic shape, you can turn Symmetric Modeling off, and add asymmetric design features unique to each side.
