NX Realize Shape > Creating subdivision models > Create and position a mirrored cage
Create and position a mirrored cage
You may want to mirror cage elements without making the entire model symmetric.
This example shows how to mirror an articulated button, and then position it to achieve the design intent.
- In the Part Navigator, double-click the subdivision body to edit it in the NX Realize Shape task environment.
It is a good practice to define a work region to isolate cage geometry.
Choose Home tab→NX Realize Shape group, select Define Work Region .
Set the Work Region and Frozen Region options.
In this example:
Work Region = Selected
Frozen Region = Hidden
On the Top Border bar, set Type Filter to Cage Face and, on the scene toolbar, set Selection Rule to Region.
Select a face of the cage region that defines the button and then middle-click to OK.
Choose Home tab→Create group→Mirror Cage .
Select the region to mirror.
In the **Mirror Plane **group, click Plane Dialog .
You can specify three points to define the mirror plane.
In the Objects to Define Plane group, click Point Dialog .
Select a cage vertex, and then middle-click to OK.
In the Objects to Define Plane group, click Point Dialog again.
Select a second cage vertex, and then middle-click to OK.
In the Objects to Define Plane group, select Point Dialog again.
Select a third cage vertex, and then middle-click to OK.
The mirror plane is defined.
- In the Offset group, select the Offset check box , specify an offset distance, and then click OK.
In this example, an offset distance of 3 millimeters is used.
The button is offset and mirrored.
In this example, the button needs to be raised to take the slope of the top face into consideration and be even with the other button.
Choose Home tab→Edit group→Transform Cage .
In the Method group, click the Transform tab.
Select the region to transform.
Translate the cage, as needed.
In this example, the cage is translated in the ZC direction 1 millimeter.
- Choose Finish to finish the transform cage operation and exit the NX Realize Shape task environment.
