Simplify a design by merging faces
This example shows how faces of a center console of a steering column are merged in the NX Realize Shape task environment to smooth out the surface and simplify the model. This console was created using Symmetric Modeling.
Choose Home tab→Edit group→Merge Face .
Select the first set of three faces you want to merge.
Selected faces are smoothed out based on the total faces selected.
Small sets of selected faces yield more detail.
Large sets of selected faces yield less detail.
Middle-click to complete the merge.
Select the next set of three faces that are part of the indentation of the surface.
Middle-click to complete the merge.
Select the last set of three faces for merging.
Middle-click to complete the merge.
It is a good practice to merge faces when possible to help smooth the resulting surface.
Using reflection lines helps validate the smoothness of merged faces.
