Simplify a design by merging cage edges

This example shows how to merge the cage faces of a razor handle in the NX Realize Shape task environment, to smoothen out the surface and simplify the model.

This razor handle was created using Symmetric Modeling, so changes to one side also apply to the other side.

1. Choose Home tab→Edit group→Merge Face .

2. Select the cages edges between the cage faces you want to merge.

When the adjacent cage faces are merged, the surface they form is smoothened out based on the number of cage edges you select.

• A small number of selected cage edges results in more detail on the surface.

• A large number of selected cage edges results in less detail on the surface.

3. Middle-click to complete the merge the cage faces.

When you work with subdivision bodies, it is a good practice to merge faces when possible to smoothen the surface.
