Cut Elbow dialog box

When you select the Cut Elbow command, the following options are available:

Option Description
Selected Part Displays the currently selected standard elbow part. This elbow part will be cut and placed when you select OK.
Choose Part Use the current Part Library type to choose a standard elbow part.
List Part Information Display information about the currently selected elbow part.
Required Characteristics Values for these characteristics MUST be entered before placing the part. The characteristics listed here depend on the Routing Mechanical application view. This item does not appear if no required characteristics are specified in the application view.
Optional Characteristics Values for these characteristics may be entered before placing the part. Depends on the Routing Mechanical application view; does not appear if none are specified.
Screen Selection A previously placed standard elbow may be selected from the graphics screen, and will be used as the elbow to be cut and placed.

Choose the standard elbow

Only standard 90° elbows can be cut and placed. You may use one of two methods to choose a standard elbow part:

  • Use Specify Item to find and select the elbow using the part library option defined in the piping application view, or
  • Select a previously added standard elbow directly from the graphics window.

Select the Placement Routing Control Point (RCP)

Select a Routing Control Point using the Placement RCP dialog box, such that the angle between the segments emanating from the selected RCP is greater than 90° and less than 180°. You may repeat this step to place the selected standard elbow at different corners.

You can also select a bend RCP to select the corner. In this case the corner angle is computed using the segments emanating from the bend segment.

Confirm the placement

The selected elbow is cut and displayed at the placement RCP such that the ports are aligned with the corner segments. Use the Confirm Orientation dialog box to either accept this position to place the cut elbow, or move the cut elbow to any desired position using the Translate/Rotate dialog box (e.g. a cut elbow placed at a 115° corner).

Option Description
Accept Accepts the current orientation and sets the part into the segments and stock.
Accept and Transform Accepts the current orientation and continues to the Translate/Rotate dialog box.

Cut elbows versus standard elbows

Cut Elbows can be selected, moved, copied, and deleted just like standard elbows. Unify Path will replace cut elbows with standard elbows matching the unification description characteristics and automatically cut them to orient with the corner angle.
