Guidelines when modeling with NX Realize Shape

You can avoid complications while subdivision modeling by following some fundamental guidelines.

  • Keep your control cage as simple as possible.

  • N-sided polygon control cages are supported, but as a best practice, use quadrilateral polygon control cages as much as possible to achieve better results.

  • To achieve transitional shapes and feature lines, it is best to use split or subdivide the control cage. Setting weight and continuity on the control cage should be used sparingly.

  • When setting weight and continuity on a control cage, it is a good practice to select edges to avoid inadvertently applying weight or continuity to internal face edges, when multiple contiguous faces are selected.

  • Although it is possible to create multiple bodies within a single subdivision feature, it is only recommended as an aid to creating a single subdivision form.

For example, creating multiple subdivision bodies that will be shaped and combined prior to exiting the NX Realize Shape task environment.

  • Avoid extruding control cage elements a zero length.

  • To get better performance during dragging operations, use lower display resolution when working in the task environment.
