Define and transform a work region in a model

When you work with cage geometry of complex subdivision models, you may want to isolate certain cage elements in a a work region to modify them more easily.

In this example, control cage elements of an ear of a molded horse are isolated and rotated.

  1. In the Part Navigator, double-click the subdivsion body to edit it.

  2. Choose Home tab→NX Realize Shape group→Define Work Region .

  3. Set the Work Region and Frozen Region options.

For this example, the defaults are used:

  • Work Region = Selected

  • Frozen Region = Hidden

  1. Select the cage faces to define as the work region, and then click OK.

In this example, rectangle selection is used to select the ear cage elements.

Tip: Hold the Shift-key and click any cage faces to deselect them.

The ear cage elements are isolated in a work region.

  1. Edit the isolated region as necessary.

In this example, Transform Cage is used to rotate the isolated ear counter-clockwise.


Note: The work region you define is in effect until you redefine it, so it is a good practice to redefine the work region back to the whole model before leaving the model. To do so:

  • Home tab→NX Realize Shape group→Define Work Region

  • Set Work Region to All, and then click OK.
