  1. In the Part Navigator, double-click the subdivision body of the chair to enter the NX Realize Shape task environment.

  2. Choose Home tab→Create group→Copy Cage to copy cage faces of the parent as the base for the offset.

  3. Select the faces to copy, and then click OK.

In this example, six cage faces are selected using the Matrix selection rule.

  1. Choose Home tab→NX Realize Shape group→Define Work Region .

  2. Set the Work Region and Frozen Region options.

In this example:

  • Work Region = Selected

  • Frozen Region = Hidden

  1. On the scene toolbar, set the Selection Rule to Region.

  2. Select a face in the region to isolate the region.

The work region is defined.

In this example, you will split cage faces to prepare for the offset.

  1. Choose Home tab→Edit group→Split Face .

In this example, the two lower cage faces are split.

  1. Drag the split line to where you want to split the cage faces.

You must delete the bottom row of cage faces that you do not want to offset.

  2. Right-click→Delete , and then click OK.

The copied cage faces are now ready to offset.

  1. Choose Home tab→Create group→Offset Cage .

  2. With Selection Rule set to Region, select any face of the copied surfaces.

  3. In the Offset group, specify the Distance value and, as needed, the offset direction.

In this example, the vector is reversed and offset 20 millimeters.

  1. Click OK.

The upper and lower cage faces form the back cushion.

  1. Choose Home tab→Create group, select Fill .

  2. Select the upper and lower edges of an offset cage face pair, then middle-click to create a fill.

Note: You can only create a fill for one set of edge pairs at a time.

  1. Create a fill for each edge pair of the upper and lower cage edges of the cushion.

The basic cushion shape is created. You can continue to refine the cushion shape, as needed.

Before you exit the NX Realize Shape task environment, it is a good practice to reset the work region to the whole model.

  1. Optional: Choose Home tab→NX Realize Shape group→Define Work Region and reset the Work Region to All to reset the work region to the whole model.

  2. Choose NX Realize Shape group→Finish .
