Uniformly split a cage of faces to add detail to a shape
This example shows how to split a cage of faces and then position and scale loops of edges to define a bottle shape.
Choose Home tab→Modify group→Split Face .
On the Top Border bar, from the Selection Rule list, choose Loop.
In the Split Face dialog box, ensure Type is set to Uniform.
With Select Face active, select a face of the loop of faces you want to split, and then middle-click to advance.
Select the edge along which you want the division calculated.
In the Split group, in the Number box, type in 2 and Enter.
Drag the top split line half the distance to the top edge of the bottle.
The cage is split and ready for subsequent operations, such as Transform Cage.
Choose Home tab→Modify group→Transform Cage .
On the Top Border bar, set the following:
Type Filter = Cage Edge
Selection Rule = Loop
In the Transform Cage dialog box, on the Transform tab, make sure Scaling is set to Uniform.
Select an edge of the upper loop of edges.
Drag the X Scale handle to increase the scale of the cage loop of edges.
(Optional) Repeat the transform cage procedure to uniformly decrease the scale of the lower split loop of edges.
