Using design rules

Use Design Rules to check a routing assembly for compliance to standards. If a design rule detects a standards violation, a violation object creates and is attached to the object(s) that caused the violation. You may view the violations at a later time and add information to each violation to explain the reason for the nonstandard design. A violation persists in the part file as long as the rule remains violated, although the violation may be overridden. Once the design is corrected such that the violation is no longer valid, the violation is automatically deleted.

Rules

Rules are the definition of the criteria that must be satisfied by a routing assembly. If the routing assembly does not conform to the rule, it is considered to be in violation. Basic rules are provided for the Routing applications. Custom rules may be implemented using NX Open.

The Application View (APV) defines when a rule executes by marking the rule as CONCURRENT, INTERACTIVE, and/or BATCH:

• CONCURRENT rules execute automatically after each Routing creation and edit function.
• INTERACTIVE rules execute on demand when you choose the Interactive Check button.
• BATCH rules execute in a separate process from the NX session.

Violations

When objects do not conform to the criteria set by a design rule, they are in violation. A violation object is created and assigned to the violating objects. Violations also contain information about why the objects are violating the design rule and when the violation was created or last updated.

The designer may review the violations at any time using Browse Violations. You can document the reasons for the violation by creating an override. The only way to delete a violation is by changing the assembly to conform to the design rule.
