Create handrails

Procedure

1. You must be in the Routing Mechanical application; choose Start → All Applications → Routing → Platform.
2. Choose Home tab → Platform group → Handrail.
3. In the Handrail group, click Select Handrail. NX opens the Routing Reuse Search dialog box to let you specify the railing stock and the posts you want to use for creating the handrails.
4. Select the set of parts you want to use and click OK. You must specify a handrail definition — a collection of parts to use for the handrail, such as the start post, end post, and intermediate post parts, along with the stock parts to use for the rails.

NX opens the Handrail Creator dialog box and the name and description of the posts you specified appear in the Handrail group.

5. In the Handrail Creator dialog box, in the Settings group, set:
   • Create Closed Handrail
   • Create Stock
6. In the Position group, in the Post Type subgroup, click Start, and in the graphics window select the point at which you want to place the first post.
   • A Start post is placed and Post is selected in the Post Type subgroup.
   • The Start post rotates to align itself with the next Intermediate post when you place one or more Intermediate posts.
   • (Optional) You can start the handrail using an intermediate post instead.
7. Successively select the points at which you want to place the Intermediate posts. Intermediate posts are placed at all the points you specify, and railing stock is created between them. Intermediate posts automatically rotate to accommodate changes in direction.
8. In the Post Type subgroup, click End, and in the graphics window select the point at which you want to place the last post. An End post is placed and railing stock is created between the last Intermediate post and the End post. (Optional: you can end the handrail using an intermediate post.)
9. Click Close.

A handrail is created using standard parts as posts, segments between the posts, and stock on the segments as railing.

You can use Routing commands such as Transform Path to move the posts and Replace Stock to change the railing stock.
